Capistrano's at the Embassy Suites - Arcadia
*According to one long-time resident, Arcadia used to be a sleepy little town that folks would stumble upon almost by chance on their way to the nearby Santa Anita Racetrack. But the past six years has seen a burst of new construction and municipal promotion, making Arcadia a growing business center with sleek hotels and a slew of trendy eateries lining its "Restaurant Row".
At the top of the Row like a crown jewel sits the extraordinary Embassy Suites, which offers the ultimate in luxury and service in a delightfully novel setting. You may think all hotels are about the same, but after visiting Embassy Suites in Arcadia, you'll discover that's just not true.
From the moment you enter the distressed brick foyer culminating in a covered ceiling and ornate brass chandelier, you know you are in for something special. Several hand-painted murals along the lobby walls, one depicting a bull fight, another a mission village, announce the Old Spanish motif.
Yet, this is Spain in California, which means the colors are light, fresh and clean. Just beyond the reception desk, a cluster of palms towers over a sweeping waterfall and pond, home to a covey of contented ducks and colorful koi. The sound of the flowing water enhances the lush atmosphere, designed to transport visitors to a pastoral retreat where a bit of the exotic outdoors is brought inside.
To dramatize this effect, the hotel's seven stories of rooms are built around a large atrium courtyard topped by a vaulted skylight. During the day, natural light casts a warm, inviting glow over everything. At night, the "street lamps" and lantern sconces light up, and the courtyard becomes a Costa Del Sol street scene.
Capistrano's, the Embassy Suites' signature restaurant, is transformed into a virtual outdoor cafe, enticing strolling visitors to stop and stay awhile. Capistrano's patio is poised just above the duck pond, making it an enchanting spot for a cocktail reception following the ceremony. And oh, what a wedding ceremony! The bride waits hidden behind the waterfall.
Slowly, she begins here promenade through the picturesque courtyard, perhaps trailing her fingertips in the trickling Spanish fountain in the center. When she reaches the Ceremony Patio, a pair of ushers opens two wrought-iron gates. As the music swells, the bride ascends three steps to meet her groom inside a red-roofed gazebo at the farthest end of the courtyard.
Sometimes the hotel guests can't keep from leaning on their balcony railings to sneak a peek at the wedding couple, evoking the days when all the villagers would turn out to wish the bride well.
Host an intimate Cocktail hour or rehearsal dinner in one of Capistrano's private rooms, done in comfortable Mission-style with brick floors, antique crockery, wooden hutches and sturdy leather chairs. Larger and more traditional receptions take place in the Santa Anita Ballroom, whose 7,500+ square feet of party space can be sectioned off into smaller areas. Each one features beaded chandeliers--adding even more sparkle to your event.
