About Chez Spencer
Chez Spencer owner and Executive Chef Laurent Katgely, a native of the French Alps, began his culinary career at the age of fourteen. A graduate of the Dignes Les Bains Culinary School, Laurent apprenticed at the Relais et Chateau L'Escale, Alain Chapel and Pile ou Face.
He came to the States in 1992, working in New York's Lepinasse and as Executive Chef of Pastis in Los Angeles. In San Francisco Laurent worked at the Pan Pacific Hotel, City of Paris, Boulevard, as Executive Chef of the Mission district's popular Foreign Cinema, and at Alfy's in San Anselmo.
His cooking has earned glowing reviews in the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner, Gourmet, Details, Playboy, Conde Nast Traveler(Hot Tables 2003), 7X7,
New York Times, Bon Appetit. SF Bay Guradian,
SF Weekly, Vanity Fair, and the Los Angeles Times.
Laurent, together with his wife Erin, opened the restaurant in May of 2002. They named it for their son, Spencer, who is now six years old. The restaurant interior's dominant features are high, arching wooden beams and skylights. Figure paintings and taxidermy adorn our main dining area, which can accomodate approximately 40 guests. The full bar stands next to the delicious aromas from the wood-burning oven which lends a cozy charm to the already warm and gracious ambience. Guests enter through the large outer gate, and are welcomed by a garden of flowers, olive trees, an herb garden and a lovely, heated courtyard that can accomodate up to 25 additional guests.
We offer extraordinary menu items for dinner. Our classic French fare, excellent wine selection, and gracious staff will provide you with an elegant yet casual dining experience. |
